Sure. It was a great speech. Brought a tear to my eye.

It was not a speech; Blair struggles to find a sympathetic audience in the UK these days.

If only it were all true. We’re not uniformly the good guys here by any stretch of the imagination. (1)

I feel sorry for the troops; there are not enough of them and they have the wrong type of training. I blame Bush, Rumsfeld etc for the alleged “atrocities”; not the troops on the ground.

I dunno about you but viewing some of the Fallujah footage, I kept hearing “we had to destroy the village in order to save it” and “we are making great progress in our pacification of the Mekong delta” from the voices in my head.

Given the carnage wrought by Bush across Iraq, there is something perverse about him demanding Fallujah handover those involved in the killing of your four countrymen.

Wish they’d shut up and let me be.

1 - note. we don’t NEED to be 100% perfect in order to be better than our opponents. Even a mixed morality can succeed. But SOME movement in the good direction would be a good thing.

The problem is that Bush appears to have adopted the (failed) Israeli model for dealing with “low intensity urban warfare”. The alterative is the tried and tested UK model which is working well in Basra.
