I agree, but while you value happiness, others value (human) life.

So the decision rests with those who will be affected by its death. Mostly
the mother, but also the father and family, plus also those strangers who
are morally outraged by the decision.

My feeling with abortion is that those who feel it to be wrong should sign
a petition. The petition would read, in essence "Should someone desire an
abortion but be prepared to carry it to term and reliquish it, I ___________
(sign here) agree to adopt that baby and to care for it without further
question."

Here in the US, not quite so explicitly, but essentially that exists.
Desirable (60+%) babies have a line waiting for them in general.  And
anti-abortion folks do sponsor free crisis counciling for women w/
unwanted pregnancy.  I understand that at least some of them are
overbearing and just try to guilt the women into keeping it, but others
also hook them up with adoptive families, and support groups for helping
to support their choice to keep the child.

If you want to punish mothers, be up front and say so. Right to
life is just so much hot air IMO until I start seeing those petitions.
Why kill for a "life-affirming" belief when you can bring life for it
instead?

Well, I think that killing abortion doctors is stupid because the best
it can do is drive abortion underground where it won't be fairly safe.
But, I can also see the point that taking your approach would be
encouraging irresponsible behavior.  And frankly, I think there should
be a little shame associated with getting an abortion (for most people
choosing to do so it's a choice made out of irresponsibility) and
unwanted pregnancy should be discouraged.  That's my experience anyway, YMMV.
