So children living there are responsible for their parents choice of having a job there? If a little girl gets a fractured leg and her parents are poor, does this mean she is responsible and that she deserves not to be treated for her injuries because of her parents? We do not choose where we come from, where we are raised, our parents, our native origin and/or nationality. We can't be held responsible for choices we can't make. It's easy to say that everyone is responsible for their choices, but that's being blind to the reality where people often take what they can because they don't have the choice to refuse the job, don't have enough money to move to another country, etc.

No it's not! Many people in the USA are simply incapable because of many
factors to make ends meet. I'm not even talking about dvd players or beer of
cigarettes here, but about paying the rent, feeding your children, paying
healthcare INSURANCE... Where do YOU come from? If you came from a very very
poor family, got a bad education because you were starving when you got to
school every morning, had to work to help your parents, etc, you wouldn't say
that. Some of us are blessed and argue here about trivial issues, but get down
there in the street and you'll see that people don't choose that life, they are
stuck in it with very little help to get out. Especially when people say things
like "people are responsible for their problems".
It's true that some poor people in the US are better of than those in Ethiopie
for example. But that's not the point. The point is that poor people are
living in a bad situation and that the govt should be helping them. When you
didn't have the same opportunities as others when you were a child, your brain
gets less developped, your IQ potential drops permanently and it's a lot harder
to get started in life when you are starving and the only thing you think of is
getting something to eat. Poor people are stuck in a cycle. Rich people are
stuck in the same kind of cycle too. My wife is a psy and she knows about the
effects of poverty on people. Lemme tell you, choice is a privilege some people
don't have.
