Please note before I start that these are not necessarily my views, but
arguments against these two things not based on morality. As for pornography
and prostitution, every time a strip club, adult bookstore, or house of
prostitution opens up, crime in that community raises tremendously. Sexual
assault rates raise by an average of 200%, and other crime rates from petty
theft to homicide tend to rise. Truth be told these establishments tend not
to attract the best of society.
As for marijuana, and I feel strongly that this should be legalized, it is a
harmful drug. Marijuana is much more harmful to the lungs than normal
cigarettes, and causes irreparable damage to the brain. What always makes me
laugh about the pro-marijuana group is that many of them are also the
anti-smoking/tobacco company group, seems hypocritical to me, they both kill.

| (...) Seriously, why isn't this stuff legal? Forget the moral issues--what is the downside to legalizing pot? And isn't porn already legal? Can't I walk into AOV and buy por nmovies/magazines? I would love to hear a debate on legalizing prostitution (...) (22 years ago, 2-May-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
