I agree-- it *can* give your life meaning to hope. But how about hoping in
Santa Claus? Should we? Better yet, let's hope for some *NON* christian
afterlife! If the ends justify the means (fulfillment of life justified by
being Christian), won't an alternative end of equal merit be justified by
its means? IE, being an atheist, can't I hope for some sort of *other* kind
of afterlife?

Let me ask you this-- if you were suddenly given irrefutable proof that God
didn't exist, would you still feel a complusion to be moral? I would!
Society works a lot better when its citizens abide by their moral judgement.
It makes me happy to be moral and to see other people act so-- Enjoying life
isn't necessarily at the "expense of others".
