Hey, what's wrong with trying to throw out a foreign occupying force?
Rather see them do it Gandhi/King style, though.  Blowing up baby carriages
just hurts their own cause (kinda like the Palestinians).

I'm going to jump on your parenthetical comment, Bruce, to make a point.  The
Palestinians have an agenda-- self-determination, Statehood, and peace.  The
Israelis have an agenda-- the recognition of their right to exist, and peace.
Muslim extremists have an agenda-- death to the infidels and Israel.  2 of
these 3 agendas can work together; 1 cannot.  The Palestinians need to rise up
and take their destiny from the hands of terrorist leaders and place it in the
hands of a Sadat figure (post '73;-)-- I believe that the Israeli GP would
respond in kind.  If she ignored *legitimate* overtures of peace from
Palestinians, that's when US pressure could be brought to bear to "persuade"
dissident right-wing Israelis to accept.

The Palestinian and Isrealis, and the Irish and the English need to try and
realize that their best course of action is negotiation and compromise.
Effectively, though, this means that Isrealis need to give up some land, and
the English need to give some political power.  Neither of those two seem to
be willing, so the violence continues.  Both can continue as is because
there is enough of an excuse in not wanting to give in to terrorism that
they receive at least a minimal level of support.  Faced with non-violent
protest, I think that support would erode to the point that they would have
to start the compromise process.  Alas, easier said than done: the
life-expectancy of peaceful visionaries is minimal.  Life is so full of
wonderful things that it is such a shame to have it cut short by violence.
