While I agree with you in your point about keeping religion out of state run
affairs...
I have the freedom to believe what I want, as do you. If the state
acknowledges something like the existence of 'little green fairies', it does
not mean I have to believe in them, nor does it make me an outcast if I
don't. If we take our freedoms seriously, and these freedoms are protected,
it shouldn't matter what 'the state' says in an artcle somewhere.
I would rather see the references of God removed, but whether its there or
not will not affect my belief system. It's like 'In God *we* trust', not
'In God *I* trust'--if the nation trusts a parchment written 200+ years ago,
then 'in DOI we, as a nation, trust'--I will, however, abstain from trusting
a piece of paper.

You really like the guns. In the final analysis if the situation doesn't
improve or go the way it should, get out the guns--It's just a step above
'who has the biggest stick rules'.
We laugh at the French 'cause it seemed that every other week for a while
they went thru a revolution, and yet, just below the surface of America,
there's another revolution just looking for a spark to start it. This is
not a good thing, btw.
Revolutions are for impatient people who want things their way and they want
it now, instead of working with the system to improve it from the inside.
One of the problems with revolutions is that there will come a time when,
well 'we need another revolution 'cause of whatever...' It causes
instability, and you lose the foundational history of who you were before
the revolution to build on.
If we look at it, whatever happened before 1776 is all nice to know for
history and such, but really has nothing to do with 'being American' It's
like a break in time--everything that happened before is like greyed out, as
to being irrelevant, but what happened *after* 1776, well then--that's the
important stuff!
Canada evolved into the country we are today, and continue to evolve, and
are not beholden to a piece of paper--a stake in the ground put there 200+
years ago to which we are chained.
Seriously, have your gun--it doesn't matter to me, just like others
'unbelief' in God does not affect my belief in God. For me, just don't
equate the freedoms you enjoy today, and hopefully will continue to enjoy in
the future, are due to *your* having a .357 in the closet. You're free
today because the military is out in the world protecting your freedom,
because the police are patrolling the streets locally protecting your
freedom, and the people you voted into office are working politically to
protect your freedom (or should be anyway--if they aren't, you can vote 'em
out of office the next election :) )--it really has nothing to do with that
piece of steel in your house.
I don't know if I am making any sense here--just throwing stuff out that's
going thru my mind, none of which should be taken as my total political
beliefs at all--I'm just saying...
But I'm done.

| (...) But that's not quite the point, either. If the State has the right to mandate religion (which it does NOT, despite John's wishes to the contrary), then I have no legal recourse if the State throws me in jail for not bowing at the alter of the (...)
