I'm confused.  How does a tree harvester produce minimal impact on terrain?
If you're gonna clear a forest, why bother stepping lightly over the
undergrowth?

I think the point is that they're not trying to clear the whole forest; they're
just trying to remove certain trees.  With environmental legislation affecting
how corporations use natural resources, minimal disturbance might be an
attractive feature for prospective logging companies.

I see dozens of these being used to "more efficiently" clear cut the already
dwindling forests in South America and elsewhere.  Not that I'm a
tree-hugger, but I do see a problem with clear cutting that this machine
only seems to aggravate.

Men with chainsaws are quite efficient to that end; there's no need for fanccy
expensive walking machinery in that area.
