I don't think you really hated point it out. Also, you're assertion, while
certainly correct, supports Tom's stance better than your own once you look at
the broader picture.
The rate of violent crime is _greater_ in the UK than in the US. Maybe this is
because people in the US can plausibly be expected to defend themselves with
easy lethal force..? So the criminals moved to somewhere (Great Brittain)
where it is more difficult to defend oneself. (I don't actually think that the
UK is peopled by American criminals, but I do think that people more readily
turn to crime knowing that they are safe to do so without serious retribution.)

So you're agreeing that reducing cun prevalence won't actually change the
violence rate? Now I'm confused. I thought you were opposed to ease of
acquisition.

Even knowing that no one around you could help to defend you? I'd rather be
mugged in texas where joe average owns 2.4 guns and may well be carrying one
with him.
