A quick summary is that Stephen Biko was a black South African under
aparteid who refused to not speak out against it; this got him expelled from
university for his politcal views, and turned into a fugitive by the
government. He was arrested for political reasons, beaten into a coma by
police officers, and died shortly thereafter. He became a martyr and a
rallying cry for the anti-apartheid movement, but even before that was a
thinker and a writer who advocated societal change to eliminate racism, and
not just flip the system around.
http://www.biko.com/ appears to be a good resource, but I haven't had time
to explore many of the links.
http://www.encyclopedia.com/articles/20341.html has a short summary and what
appear to be a good collection of links, but the ones I tried lead to pay
sites. :/
thanks,
James
