Darn it! I just don't know when to stop sometimes. Oh well, I'm sorry for
putting you off with my closing statements. They are intended to be
completely sarcastic and based on the stereotypical response that you'll get
from the average American who is "insulted" by an European. "At least we
saved your butts in WWII" is like some kind of battle cry in this country
and for many seems to be the justification for anything the U.S. might do.
Just to be absolutely clear this is not what I believe. I guess the
sarcastic "thanks" to America for making the world a safe place rankles me
just like it does many citizens of this country. Obviously, lawrence
doesn't think the U.S. has made any contributions to the world community.
I am fairly familiar with the role Britain played in defeating Germany
during WWII. One aspect of the war that I have a big interest in is the
Bletchley Park crew and the breaking of the Enigma code. At the same time I
realize that the actual war on land, sea and air was fought extremely hard
and with great losses by our British allies.
Having just written that I realize that I do owe you (and others) an apology
for my comments even if they were meant to illustrate the ridiculousness of
the statement it was a rebuttal to.

I agree about the two countries being a good team. In fact, I'm one of the
few Americans you can find who actually belives that the Revolution back in
1776 was a bad idea. I honestly believe that the combined greatness of
Britain and the American colonies (including Canada of course) could have
been a truly great thing. Oh well...
Thanks for the feedback, Psi - sorry I have to pull you into this with an
uncalled for negative satement about the UK.
