He would then be cutting that crust off of the loaf of bread on the kitchen

Oops, he simply took the whole loaf.  No knife present.  They cart you of to
jail.  Meet Bubba.

I beleived that the intruder was about to sexually assault my wife (or even
me, who knows about people these days). *BLAM*

Oh dang, that was a woman you shot - your alibi doesn't hold up.  They cart
you off to jail.  Bubba thinks you are cute.

Someone being in your
house uninvited is NOT open season to shoot first and ask questions later.
It's pretty darn clear about it.

Uninvited is one thing. I have family show up uninvited quite often. But
unless I immediately recognize the intruder, or there's a police cruiser,
firetruck, or ambulance out front - I'm assuming they're armed & dangerous.

That fireman came over the wall - the firetruck is at the next street over.
You looked out the front window, spotted nothing and just murdered a
fireman.  Bubba never baths and is really hairy.

All this macho posturing may make you feel good about yourself, just realize
that it may well not stand up in court.  Posting messages saying you intend
to flout the law about reasonable belief in public places puts you in a bad
position if the prosecution reads Lugnet.  ;-)

Here's a nice story for you, I'm glad this guy didn't waist time to ask if
the intruder was looking for a slice of bread.

Gregory Jenkins of Antioch, Tennessee, was awakened by the sound of breaking
glass early Monday morning.  He got out of bed, grabbed his gun, and went to
investigate.  He saw that the window of his back door had been broken.
Someone was trying to get in!

Jenkins wasted no time.  He fired several shots at his back door.  Someone
outside shot at him.  Jenkins returned fire--and hit 23-year-old Eddrick
Cleveland in the chest.

Cleveland is now food for worms.  He died after his cousin, Donnie Lee
Rucker, took him to a local hospital.  Rucker was arrested and charged with
attempted aggravated robbery.  Police have determined that the shooting was
justified.  Cleveland and Rucker were both armed with rifles when they
approached Jenkins' house.  They had apparently been looking for drugs and
money.

Three cheers for Gregory Jenkins!  His aim was true.  He didn't keep the
ammunition separate from his gun.  He didn't have a trigger lock on that
gun.  Thanks to his quick action, this dangerous predator won't live to
terrorize the residents of Antioch again.

(...) Thank heavens it wasn't you chasing Eddrick Jenkins. (...) Right. He was justified as it turned out. But if it had been a fireman he'd be hauled away. The point you are not getting is that this is about "I'm going to fire first and ask (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
