Wow, an honest-to-gosh personal opinion that I can agree with...to bad some
of the masses here are pick it apart for all it's worth...

I think our system in the states is a republic and not a democracy. A point
well worth making.  I also think our system is a constitutional system,
another point well worth making.  Lastly, we have a system based on the
"inalienable" rights of individuals. That's probably the most important
point one could make.  But I am NOT relying upon a document for my beliefs.
The document symbolizes what I believe, but it is not the belief itself.
Instead, I have an ethic of rights I got from the "Enlightenment." Stuff like:

that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable rights;
that among these, are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to
secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their

to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its
foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to
them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness."

I would append a small note to the above quote to state that most
constitutional scholars take the phrase "pursuit of happiness" to mean
"property." The word "property" is a HUGE word in terms of its legal import
and I would certainly suggest to anyone interested that they learn more
about it. That word will take you practically everywhere you need to go in
understanding your rights. [N.B. another really cool word is "allodial" --
try it, you'll like it.]

My ultimate point is that y'all can legislate, and call referendum's, and do
anything you want.  I am proud to a be a a radical conservative in the
Jeffersonian mold and I will NOT relinquish my right and duty to be armed no
matter what y'all come up with.  I consider being armed an inalienable right
that allows me to come to the aid and defense of myself, my loved ones, my
country, and fellow countrymen.  Yes, just as simple as that.

I don't belong to the NRA.  I don't want to hurt anyone.  But when push
comes to shove, watch out for the guy with the 12 guage riot control
shotgun! What that means is that if you come to my home unbidden (say in the
middle of the night and fingering my best Lego MOCs), I will shoot in your
general direction and make human hamburger out of you (Yes, I chose a gun I
could use without my glasses being on).  It also means that if I see you
shooting people in the street, I will take you out of your own misery and
everyone else's.  What have I done with my gun since I have owned it?
Mostly I just clean it.  Sometimes I take it out shooting to blow the crap
out of something -- usually it makes big bits into very teeny tiny bits --
it being extremely efficient at that one task.  Mostly, I try to just keep
it oiled and happy. Before I let anyone EVEN TOUCH my gun I usually harangue
them with about 45 minutes of talk on gun safety and use (You never know
--it could be the first time they have heard it). Sadly, I am not kidding.
I am a safety nut.  Children do not handle my gun -- not ever.  I don't have
children of my own, but on the occassions when my nephew and neice have
stayed with me, I can assure you they did not have access to my gun.  Yeah,
I am Mr. Crazy with a gun!  That's me.

One last point about The Constitution.  I tend to agree with most of it,
especially most of the original document and the ten points amended to it.
I also think that most of the unhappiness some of us have with our current
form of government has to do with our government not operating under the
constitution, but actually in opposition to what is therein written.  Before
we talk of rewriting the thing, how about we just try playing by the rules
for once?  If you want to rewrite it, you had best find me a James Madison
or a Thomas Jefferson to do it too!

If y'all want to discuss something that might ACTUALLY matter, how about we
talk about The Federal Reserve?  I'd be curious to know what everyone knows
about it.  Follow the money trail...that's where it's at!  This anti-gun
talk is more like "bread and circuses" -- something to keep us occupied
while the powers that be fleece us!
