Yeah, let's do it RIGHT - drop the sanctions, and assassinate the bastard.
That's the simplest fix ;-)

I just read an interesting piece in The New Republic about the sanctions on
Iraq:
http://www.tnr.com/061801/rubin061801.html

Seems that the Iraqi govt. IS able to get food from other nations, but it
exports it to pay for luxuries for the party elite. It supports the case
that sanctions don't work at changing the behavior of a dictatorship, and
also shows that it is the Iraqi govt. that is responsible for the suffering
of its people, not the sanctions.

Seems so, according to that one report and I don't doubt for a minute that
Saddam wouldn't take the money from the so-called "oil-for-food" program to
build palaces and let Iraqis suffer. Even if this report were 100% true, it
doesn't change the fact that the sanctions in place do nothing to harm to
Saddam. It seems having the sanctions just gives that bastard the excuse he
needs to blame America. Take away the sanctions, take away his excuse. Or if
this report is not fully accurate, still it seems to favor dropping the
sanctions since they have no effect on the intended target, Saddam. Either
way, the sanctions need to stop. Here's some other info:

(...) Might theoretically be simplest but I doubt it. Better: Drop the sanctions, drop restrictions on private individuals giving aid, and let his own people do it.
