You're referring to this bit, I trust:
"Both sides were responsible for human rights abuses during the conflict, in
which an estimated 4,500 civilians were killed, around 3,000 settlements
evacuated or burned down and up to three million people internally displaced."
For purpores of specific clarity, the page (great cite, by the way--I plan
to explore it further when I have the chance) doesn't specify that the
government killed 4500 but rather that the conflict resulted in an estimated
4500 deaths, with no indication given of systematic murder. A nitpicky
point, but important nonetheless. It seems to me that if the government had
in fact systematically slaughtered 4500 civilians, the AA site would have
wasted no time in specifically spelling this out.
That's not to say, of course, that I applaud the deaths, but if blame is
to be placed, let it be placed properly. I confess, though, that I haven't
had time to read the entirety of the article; are the 4500 linked
specifically to the government?
Dave!
