Ooh, Selçuk - now you're talking things I can relate to.
What you're describing here reminds me a lot of the Palestinian-Israeli
conflict that Scott and Dan were condemning earlier. I stayed out of the
discussion because I know where those things go. But by-golly-gosh, do I
know what you mean...

<nod> I don't have numbers, but the Hizballah and the Hamas are fully
terrorist groups, and the toll is heavy. What can a country do against
terror enacted within its own borders? Often by its own citizens? If this
would have been occuring in the U.S. (bombings in the middle of town
centers, buses!), you bet it would be "taken care of" ASAP. Yet Israel (and
I bet Turkey, too) is condemned for any retaliative action.

Yeah... go figure where these messes started. These fights go back for
years. And how the hell can you convince thousands and thousands that they
are fighting for a silly cause? That they're wasting lives with their
hate?... when these people won't even sit down and listen.

As someone who's about to be drafted (most likely - unless my health
conditions dictate otherwise) I know exactly what you mean. One of my
sisters lives in Jerusalem, the other in Haifa, and even in that "safe" city
there were enough incidents lately.
Two years ago, before I moved, our little town in the Galillee was hit by a
Katyusha (a "small" rocket). It was the day before my birthday - I remember
quite clearly - and there were about 100-150 kids and teenagers (me
included) in the town center at the time, rehearsing for a show that was
supposed to go up that night. Luckily for us, the rocket fell on the other
side of the town, and only shattered a few windows. It could've ended in a
major tragedy. The town is only about 3000 people total.
So who are the victims? Hard to say. Anyone who's involved in things like
that is in trouble. Too bad we can't just abolish weapons from this world.
But I s'pose they'd fight with their hands then...
