Re: "Financial news" magazines (Was: Lego Hackers)

(...) Neither of these are TW pubs. I rather like them as they don't do the standard Time Warner, "hey government intervention isn't so bad after all" spinthink the way Fortune does. (...) I read all three of these, even Fortune, and get a lot out (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: WTB Train Parts

Insulting is an art form. One needs to choose the proper sized brush. This is an example of unintended splatter, I think. (...) If you'd said "that is mighty generous of you", it would be offensive in an acceptable way, in context... that is, you'd (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

I've been here at MU for eight years and we haven't seen either extreme that you've watched. (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OS advocacy (was: Re: Perl rules!)

(...) No, what I meant, even if it didn't come through clearly, was that if I were to choose to spend $2800 on a computer (which I would not NEED to do, unless I wanted a true behemoth of a machine) I could put one together that would outperform, in (...)   "Financial news" magazines (Was: Lego Hackers)

(...) Also a troll, but IMO not a vain troll. (...) Agreed. Sorry for cluttering up .general (...) Also Forbes, also WSJ. Any magazine I've read claiming to report financial news has proven to be little more than a self-promoting millionaire's club (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: OS advocacy (was: Re: Perl rules!)

(...) Well, that's a good point. I could buy a prebuilt machine that matches that G3's specs for $1626. Basically the same machine I just ordered for myself at work minus the 21" monitor. And I won't have to buy a real keyboard and mouse in addition (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OS advocacy (was: Re: Perl rules!)

(...) I frankly don't know all the specs of all the machines around, but WRT the machines that I have around, I can count on the Macs being ~30% more expensive and a variable amount faster in ways that I find important. I've been using SETI@home as (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Well if you believe you can point us to a theoretical proof I'd be interested to see it (seriously). I'd have to say however that I'd be extremely sceptical of any proofs, because. (1) The theory of the free market relies on a number of (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
