Without seeing them in person I can’t do more than speculate, but it looks to me as if the wheels on the tank are remarkably similar to those used by MegaBloks for years in a number of sets, beginning with the 9707 Combat Tank in 1999. The design seems to be similar to the Oxford 15000 tank as well.

Good eyes, Dave!! I don’t own any of the 9707 Megabloks Tanks either but after reading your post, I sort of went to look at what I have and want to hear something interesting? Those wheels from Ed’s picture here look a lot like the ones that came in this Oxford set that I happen to have!! Unfortunately, I don’t currently own any of the new Brick Century tanks so I can’t compare the actual objects, but I will try to get some if I chance by any of them again (and here is a bigger pic of that Oxford set).

This gets more and more interesting. The only Oxford tank wheels that I have came from that 15000 set, and they’re about as big as a LEGO 2x2 round brick. The MegaBloks tank wheels are somewhat larger, as shown in the third model from the bottom on this page. These look to be about the same size as the wheels in this picture.

The design of the wheels seems different between MegaBloks and Oxford, too; the MegaBloks wheels have a wide, cylindrical rim, while the Oxford wheels are not as wide and are sort of laterally rounded, like the outer edge of a torus. These are terrible, terrible descriptions--sorry!

As for Ed’s point about the classic grey brick bulk order, given Shifty’s quality and the fact that they’re technically not copyrighted, you might as well hire a factory to make your own in quality that are compatible to Lego’s. I’ve found that colour matching of any plastic products is actually not as complicated as it’d seem :)

That’s a really neat idea. It’s beyond my resources for the foreseeable future, but it’s certainly an appealing daydream.

Dave!
