Are you by chance referring to Hasbro's Built To Rule series? There's been a

I love those Vorgan guys in general and their primitive-looking weapons in
particular. Very cool IMO.
With sets like these, MEGABLOKS puts TLG in a tight spot. TLG can't really
pursue the same genre without looking like a clone of the clone (as in the
recent Skate Park sets), but TLG also presumably doesn't want to miss out on a
viable market.
