That's all assuming he wouldn't have had to declare bankruptcy partway
through the proceedings and had to start representing himself (not many
defense attorneys will continue representing you once you've run out of
money). Large corporations have been known to bank on that very fact, doing
whatever they can to drag out the case as long as possible and forcing the
opposition to give up or lose their shirt. It's kinda like purposefully
outbidding someone in a poker game even though you've only got an 8 high.
