I believe it is necessary to offer a wide variety of pieces as well as large
quantities of pieces in order to have a successful store. Many times I have
seen a partt hat I would like to buy, but the store only had a small
quantity and didn't have anything else that I wanted. This is important
because most stores have minimum orders, and if they don't have enough
product that I want to get em over the limit, they won't get a sale.
It's also possible to go too far in the other direction and only offer lots
in quantities that are too big for most buyers. It is because of this that
I have some items listed twice in my store, once available in quantity one,
and once available in a bulk quantity, at a lower price.
I also believe that you have a better chance of getting a sale if you can
offer the buyer everything that they want in one stop, so that they don't
have to pay shipping to three different shops.

A quick look at my order screen shows that I have placed ONE order, while I
have received around 180 orders (18 screens of 10). It's just not
economical for me to purchase from there, when I am getting the bricks that
I want essentially for free from selling stuff in my own store. It's how I
support my habit ;)
This may be different, however, for people in the Guild of Bricksmiths who
use the site to sell their products as well as to buy the raw materials to
make their sets.
