Well having 5 is a good number to start at...
Look at parting out as trading time for money. In other words, keep it
simple and it may be easier and more profitable. It depends how much you
paid for these sets... Sometimes I hold onto things til market value
increases. Considering Christmas is around the corner, you may fetch a
better price for these MIB on eBay in about 6 weeks. Sometimes I keep 1 or
2 of something for a rainy day trade.
Quite often auctioning 5 or 10 of an appealing/rare/expensive element can
fetch a large return... For instance, Lindsay Braun's first Huge auction
with a lot of 30 skeletons or 30 Biker Scouts that fetched huge sums.
Timing can be everything in auctioning... check and see what value of key
figs/items/sets are before you part out the sets.
Off the top of my head, regarding the 5978 specifically:
The Baseplate or a pair might auction well
The Tents are nifty and I don't recall seeing the tent in another set (I
would auction/trade/sell all 5 at once)
I believe there is an old style palm tree in the set
(for awhile I was doing well selling the old style palm trees, but not so
anymore)
The printed elements don't seem to fetch great prices..
Any slopes, tan bits or gray elements may make nice subsequent misc lots.
The figures may be better trade fodder...don't know

Hope this helps a little... I guarantee others will have different
opinions...lol
Ironically, this is one of the sets I have not obtained on discount..there
is a store near me that actually still has 5 of these in shelf worn boxes
for $50 each...manager refuses to give me a deal... =^(
