I visited the Redwood City Target today, and they are still at 50%
off, and all they have left (that I could find anyway) is the Arctic
value packs.  I bought one of them at $4.90, but they have a large
stack of maybe 30 or so of them on an end display.  I may buy more if
it drops down to 75% off, but I doubt it.

But that's not what I'm happy about... I got my first train set!  The
Railway Express was listed at $99.99, but I found one that
was pretty badly beat up - a piece of curved track sticking out of the
box, lots of dents in the box, etc.  It was obviously a returned
item.  I took it to Customer Service, where my wife met me (she was
shopping for non-Lego items).  The manager offered me 10% off, and I
looked at my wife, and she was like "no way"... but he took pity on
me, and offered 20% off, which she grudgingly accepted.  A little
teamwork can go a long way (cf. "Bad cop, good cop")!  So I got it for
$79, which isn't as good as some people have done, but its a lot
better than the original price of $139!

I can't wait until I get home, so I can build it :-)  (I'm sure if
anything's missing, Susan Williams and her helpful crew will take care
of me.)

Welcome to the wonderful world of trains! $79 is a very fair price for the set, especially if you need the speed controller. We'll look forward to seeing you and your newly-themed MOCs on lugnet.trains! (BTW, you'll want some more track ASAP. That (...)
