Troy, I probably mis-remembered the prices. I didn't think too hard
about any of the prices that were substantially above recent discounts
for the same set elsewhere.

This is most odd....

I stopped by one of the local TMs today, and the Arachnoid Starbases
were
$50 and the Mindstorms accessory kits were $30.  You'd think the prices
would be the same chain wide, but that doesn't appear to be the case....

The Mindstorm accessory sets were $40, the Aarchnoid Bases were also
$40. The ZNAP were $20 for the 3171 and $10 for the red set in the
octagonal hard black case. The yellow Technic subs were $30, I think.
There was a lot of Duplo, including a Duplo train, but I didn't pay • any
attention to it.

Do you remember the prices of the larger sets?

I went into Tuesday Morning today and saw a shopping cart already • full
of Lego sets. I remarked that it was quite a haul, but it turned out • to
be the self-described "Lego Lady" stocking the shelves instead of • buying
them. There was Droid Developers, Extreme Creatures and the • Mindstorms
sports accessory sets, some ZNAP, a couple of Arachnoid Bases, some
yellow Technic pneumatic subs. The rest were small sets and • polybags.
The small sets included some chrome knights at $3, adventurers, city
center, knight's kingdom, soccer, indian chiefs, rock raiders. The
prices were 50% off KB Toy-like prices, so usually 40% off regular
retail. There were few irresistable bargains.

However, I ended up helping the Lego Lady stocking the shelves, and • in
return she gave me some display material and offered to set aside • the
sets I wanted in the back, off the shelves. And offered to buy them • for
me at her employee discount. On her credit card. It shows that being
nice sometimes is more than its own reward.

Tuesday Morning after action report (was Re: Tuesday Morning Preview)

(...) Just to confuse matters even more, the Arachoid Starbases were $59.99 at my TM. Go fig. But they also had some of the 1349 Steven Spielberg MovieMaker sets for $100 (marked as tho retail had been $200). Not sure if that was such a great deal (...)
