Hi, everyone.

I have a FOTW, but it's less an FOTW than a "HOTW," for "Haggle of the
Week."  I've watched this K-B ToyWorks near my favourite Wal-Mart in NJ
sit on three Aquashark 6190 Shark's Crystal Caves (MSRP $50)--a pretty
nice set that I already own three of.  I especially like some of those
trans-neon-orange elements and the "cage sides" made of the oval
bars--the latter find much use on my ships, as do the blue octagonal
columns.  Well, these boxes were pretty beat up, and the seals were
broken with age, so I talked to the manager with steely gaze, fully
expecting him not to budge because he hadn't on a Night Lord Castle I
bought a month ago.

To my delight and downright shock, he offered to sell all three to me at
$20 apiece.  Yes!  What's more, I managed to squeak one of the Crystal
Explorer Subs (6175) by for another $15.  So for $75 I got tons of parts
and glorious, glorious happiness.  Unfortunately, this discovery just
encourages me, and I'm probably going to go to Wal-Mart on Monday to
haggle with their toy manager over the 40 Oasis Ambushes they're not
moving...

The Black Lining to my Silver Cloud?  Slipped on some black ice outside
the store, and not only destroyed a new pair of grey Dockers (grrr) but
also really scraped the heck out of my knee and twisted one of my
ankles.  Was it worth it?  Er, yeah.  Payment for my pain and
suffering.  ;)

So check out those overpriced outlets, and don't be afraid to haggle!
Sometimes it works, or maybe they just really like me (I highly doubt
this).

Well, sounds like you were lucky. I tried that with FAO Schwartz and their
torn box of the royal knight's carraige (too lazy to find number now) but the
salesperson just said that the bags were still complete and that she'll take
off ten percent off the $22 set.
Wow, a $2 discount... That'll make me day.

So I didn't take it - it sat right next to a 1200 piece bucket at $26, so I
took the bucket.

Maybe she wouldn't listen because I'm "just a kid" (1) or maybe they just
really liked you in that KB...

(...) This always happens to me. No one ever gives me a deal on anything, EVER! The discounts I am usually offered are not worth the hassle of pursuing the missing parts. And this presumes I know precisely which parts have gone astray while I am (...) (24 years ago, 16-Jan-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)
