I've gone to a couple of the Kmart stores in southern California and can
confirm that there are great deals. Most pre-2003 sets (including relatively
recent sets such as last fall's Harry Potter lineup) were 75% off at the stores
I visited, although there were a few (such as some Life on Mars and Soccer
sets) which were only 50% off.
Here's what I bought (and in some cases, what I left on the shelves)
Torrance, CA Kmart:
Dumbledore's Office $12.00 (I left two on the shelves, they might still be
there)
Xtreme Tower $12.00
Werewolf Ambush $2.50
Air Chase $2.50
Green Goblin $1.50
I left several sets which were 50% off, such as some Jurassic Park ans
Soccer sets.
Temple City, CA Kmart:
SW: Jedi Defense I $1.50 (many of these left on the shelf)
SW: Jedi Defense II $1.50 (many of these left on the shelf)
AT: Command Patrol $6.00 (ripped open, but looks intact)
I left behind some soccer sets and the Mars Excavator at 50% off plus all those
Jedi Defense sets which my girlfriend wouldn't let me take. (If they had been
final duel sets, I would have grabbed them all .. but alas, no stormies for me)
El Monte, CA Kmart:
Two Bob the Builder Duplo sets for my 3-year-old cousin .. $2.50 and $3.00,
can't remember which sets exactly.
HP: Troll on the Loose $2.50
HP: Gringotts Bank $7.00
SW: Jedi Starfighter $5.00 (I was overjoyed to see this, I thought this would
never go on sale!)
the big Spiderman set $7.00 (ripped open, but looks intact)
Vampire Crypt $5.00
Maverick (racer) $1.00 (I left many Racers sets .. I only wanted one for the
pull-back motor)
AT: Mutant Squid $2.50 (I left four or five of these)
AT: Mutant Whale $2.50 (I left two or three)
Boxor $3.50
HP: Quidditch Practice: $3.00
HP: Dobby's release $1.50
HP: Dueling Club $5.00
HP: Slytherin $2.50
I left many, many, many Racers and Alpha Team sets at this store plus a $7.00
Technic Jango Fett and other assorted 75%-off goodies .. My girlfriend freaked
out when she saw my cart full of LEGO and made me put over half of it back on
the shelves!! :( Someone in the San Gabriel Valley is going to have fun going
through that shelf or, more likely, just dumping it in a cart and racing to the
checkout counter! :)
Thank you Kmart for allowing me to get almost all of the HP sets I was missing!
Now to find Flying Practice and the Privet Drive at clearance prices, and I'll
be HP-complete (except for the new sets which came out this month)
