Burr puzzles are a series of puzzles that are made of interlocking notched
sticks. The most common of these is the 6 piece burr that are made of 3 sets
of 2 perpendicular sticks.
The instructions give you the steps to create the six pieces. These pieces
come together to form the puzzle. When completed it appears that the puzzle
is 1 solid piece, when in fact there are notched areas inside the puzzle for
the pieces to slide together to form the puzzle.
It ends up being an X with the 3rd section coming in from the 3rd Dimension.
I'm working on getting extra bricks to put some pieces in different colors
to show how the pieces interact.
A Burr is commonly guaged by it's level. A level is the number of turns it
takes to remove the next piece. Thus a level 9 burr takes 9 moves to remove
the first piece and a 4.3 burr takes 4 moves to remove the first piece and 3
moves to remove the second.
Hope this helps explain it. Again, better pics are coming soon.

| (...) Lar, Charles does a very good job describing what a Burr puzzle is here, and you can get more detailed images of his particular style of Burr from Eric Harsbarger's website on the subject of puzzles, including pics of the individual pieces: (...)
