Remember Chiles' Lego Auctions?

Long ago, before there was ebay, before there was lugnet, before there was
really even the web, there was Chiles' Lego Auctions (known as Matt's Lego
Auctions back before there were many Matt's on RTL).  In those days auctions
were run by email, with updates sent out daily and bids advancing in a
traditional once/twice/sold manner (as opposed to established auction end
dates).

Anyone remeber those old auctions by email?  As the web developed we added
pictures, but bidding and updates were primarily email.   Auczilla dominated
pieces sold by auction, and quite a few people ran set auctions.  I was one
of those people and I ran a ton of sets through my auctions back in those days.

It has been well over 2 years since my last email auction, and I now mostly
sell things by direct sale on The Vault (www.insidethevault.com).  But...
now I have a bunch of old sets lying around - many used and many new, some
common and some rare, some from the early 90's and many from the 80's and
70's.  Is there any interest in an old style email update auction like this
today?  Does anyone still run them?  Would anyone still bid in one?

Or should I just start dumping things on the great altar of ebay?

Or should I try something bizarre like a reverse auction where I start the
bids at exorbanant prices and lower them until they sell?

Thanks for the input - I figure if you are reading this group you are
someone looking to buy at auction (and maybe someone who remembers my
auctions of long ago).  BTW - all those auction histories (back to around
1996 anyway) are still online at http://auctions.insidethevault.com if
anyone want to see what things used to be like, or just wax nostalgic. :)

-Matt :)

I think eBay may be your best bet for used stuff. Your prices tend to go higher than I am willing to spend for most stuff, although I have participated in your auctions before. Even through The Vault, I think we have had only one transaction and (...) (22 years ago, 3-Jun-02, to lugnet.market.auction)

(...) As a past participant in some of your auctions and as a customer of The VAULT I have always felt that the services you provide(d) were important to me. Being nostalgic, I miss those old manual auctions and Auczilla). But, like Richard I, too, (...) (22 years ago, 3-Jun-02, to lugnet.market.auction)
