Why doesn't eBay make it _easy_ for people to find or follow auctions of a
particular type?  The fact that people [have to] resort to re-listing things
elsewhere is bemusing.

Well, people don't _have to_ re-list things elsewhere... but doing so
definitely increases the exposure. I notice a difference when I
advertise my auctions on LUGNET and when I don't. I think the thing is
that people like different ways of finding out about aucitons... some
people use Personal Shopper, some people just browse what's finishing
soon in the Lego category, some people browse what's new in the Lego
category, some people search on Lego* and browse the resulating enormous
list, some people search for specific things (eg lego* train*)... and
some people notice stuff advertised on LUGNET or RTL. Different strokes.
No one of theese methods is going to be right for everyone, so I don't
think any of them should cause dismay.
