Re: Has the world gone mad?!?

I saw the same thing and decided enough was enough. I found who was in charge and told them about it. Her reply was that the judges don't know all the sets available currently. I offered to judge the following year and then I told her that if it was (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.loc.us.tn.mem, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.us.tn)

Re: Has the world gone mad?!?

Steve (the other Demlow Lego brother) helped set up a "construction toys" category for exhibits at our local 4-H fair when he was in high school. I know this was at least a little bit of a problem then, too. I think lack of originality would have (...) (...) Same thing happened to me at the Taupo Hobby Expo. In 1998 I noticed a few creations that were not original and had won prizes. For example the Divers set with the whale skeleton on a large grey baseplate instead of the original base. So I (...) (...) What area do you live in? If you're in the near South, maybe we can collaborate a humongoid effort to "moon-dust" the comapny sets off of the judges' minds. It is just a thought.... (25 years ago, 4-Oct-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.loc.us.tn.mem, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.us.tn)

Re: Has the world gone mad?!?

(...) I haven't seen a LEGO commercial in years. I don't watch TV at the right time, I guess. Even so, in any competition involving construction toys, the judges should have some knowledge of what the commercial offerings are. If there was at least (...) My suggestion is to take S@H catalogs with you next year, so that if people do enter stock sets, you can point it out to the judges. (...) (25 years ago, 4-Oct-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.loc.us.tn.mem, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.us.tn)

You are seeing Judges that aren't up on what Lego has brought out as stock models, that's where the problem comes in... they probably don't know that what the kids did wasn't their own creation made from the Lego... it's sad to see that stock Lego (...)   Has the world gone mad?!?

I went to the Mid-South Fair in Memphis. In the arts & crafts pavillion, they have a section where people (mostly kids) make art out of toys. (Most of the case was Legos.)
