You might want to take a look at PaintShop Pro from JASC Software. They have
an eval copy you can download and it is fairly easy to watermark an image using
PSP. They even have a tutorial there on their website.

The full version of the program is well worth the cost to register, as it can
do most of what Photoshop does, but a heck of a lot cheaper.
