I got an offline request for more detail. Here's a copy of my RTL post.
A report on this... This was pretty low key but good fun. Todd came and
brought my AucZILA VIII winnings, as well as a few models, and Crispin
and Steve from the Construction Site came.
We played the frog game. Crispin won in a walkaway (hopaway?) with 5
points out of 9 possible.
We ran my 9V stuff, I had 2 locos, 7 cars and my red caboose that I had
brought in carryon from Michigan. Todd had brought enough track to make
a nice long oval on the conference table.
Todd showed his dental chair, his spider, his bathroom, and his new
computer desk with swivel display.
Steve showed his desert diorama... two cattle drinking from a river,
some ducks, and a large buzzard waiting for a treat. Pretty spooky!
Crispin showed his much bigger bathroom (including vending machines,
several stalls, several urinals, hair dryers, sinks and floor drains)
which was built on an odd 24x24 baseplate that came with an older Dacta
set. Crispin also showed his microfig scale house models (a nice
colonial, a nice yellow with balconies, and a truly awesome "falling
water" (Frank Lloyd Wright) model) and the piece de resistance:
Candyland station! (my name, not his)
This truly large station in minifig scale is mostly white but with a
rainbow stripe of details and architectural elements.. There were a
number of horizontal color stripes built into the walls... truly amazing
number of different colors for certain elements. Lots of flags and
windows in lots of different colors.
Pizza was had by all, and we then tried building various things from my
AucZILLA VII elements but didn't come up with anything truly remarkable
(Steve did a cage dancer, and Todd did a variety of very large guns, as
he usually does), because the elements I got were a pretty odd mix of
stuff. lots of plates and 5 hi elements but no bricks.
We also took advantage of the fast internet connectivity the building
has to do lots of surfing.
Also.. as far as Carlsbad goes, I decided to get my tickets now for
opening day. They are general admission, you can't buy specific day
tickets, and they will only let in 15000 people so I wanted them now so
we aren't waiting in the ticket line when the gates open at 10 AM.
