Mike Poindexter (Fresno, CA) brought 12 cars, including two
alternate-model engines, and many "subway-style" (center-door)
passenger cars. Erik McCarthy (Newark, CA) added three more
cars to the train.

Mike also made an inclined track section, with an oval that
spanned 16' to 20' in length to account for the rise and fall
of the track on the straight portion.

The train needed three motor units to pull the train around
a curve, and then up the incline. The train passed the top of
the grade about the same time the last car was passing through
the curve, so the downhill run was a bit exciting.

In the middle of the loop was Mike's gorgeous white 2-story
main station. While it's still under construction, he's made
some excellent design adaptations. (He's looking for lots of
clear and trans-lt.blue skylight pieces...and other white-framed
window segments. I gave up the window-wall of my roundhouse to
help him finish a wall of this beautiful station.)

Thank you very much, Zonker.  That finished me off on the town jr. windows and
I have also gotten the left handed doors for the front as well (thanks to Eric
McCarthy) and should be getting 2 more of the 6x9 canopies some time soon, so
I am hoping to have my station almost finished by mid January and my main
problem pieces seem to be the 1x2x3 clear thin walls, of which I am needing 12
more.

Feedback on the train station has been very helpful in determining what needs
to be changed for the final version.  I would like to have it as impressive as
can be to really show off what can be done with Lego and expect it to be the
focal point of my commuter train system.

Mike also built a small freight loop, with a 2-engine, 12-blue
hopper train. He also had a few other engines and a mail car to
put out on static display.

I have lots of work to do on freight and your freight display just rocked.  I
have some cool ideas on how to keep some constant action with the freight
cars, but that will be a later project.  Until then, it looks as though you
will be reigning supreme in the Freight Train department of BayLUG.

I built a small nested freight loop, with a couple of sidings,
and set out some of the recent freight stations as well. I also
brought the roundhouse, and my train display shelf.

Janet Graff brought lots of town and etc. Erik McCarthy brought
a great 6-story observation center built from paradisa/belville
components, including spiraling staircases, and a fantastic garden
and promenade, and a tall beige spire monument.

That observation tower was probably the best item there for asthetic value.
It really was beautiful.

We also had a huge box of LEGO to dig through, thanks to Paul
Sinahosen. (Thanks, Paul!)

It was just like Christmas!  I even found one train door, which is
like, "Awesome, a train door!" mixed with "Damn, now we are missing one!"  It
was quite ironic, as the door matched one of the static cars I had that was
short two doors.

Our crowd turnout was light, but better than most of us expected.
We got a lot of drop-in public traffic from about 1pm to 4pm. We
actually had a bunch of folks asking how long we'd be there, and
they were disappointed when the answer wasn't measured in days. :-|
We've gotta find a better way to advertise these events.

Don't forget, we'll have another meeting THIS SATURDAY, 12/4, at
the Newark Library. (Members only 10a-12p, public from 12p-4p)
Eric wanted to remind us that we CANNOT have food in the Newark
facility, so please enjoy your meals elsewhere. ;-)

I don't know if I can make that one, but if I can, I will.

Mike
