Mike Poindexter (Fresno, CA) brought 12 cars, including two
alternate-model engines, and many "subway-style" (center-door)
passenger cars. Erik McCarthy (Newark, CA) added three more
cars to the train.
Mike also made an inclined track section, with an oval that
spanned 16' to 20' in length to account for the rise and fall
of the track on the straight portion.
The train needed three motor units to pull the train around
a curve, and then up the incline. The train passed the top of
the grade about the same time the last car was passing through
the curve, so the downhill run was a bit exciting.
In the middle of the loop was Mike's gorgeous white 2-story
main station. While it's still under construction, he's made
some excellent design adaptations. (He's looking for lots of
clear and trans-lt.blue skylight pieces...and other white-framed
window segments. I gave up the window-wall of my roundhouse to
help him finish a wall of this beautiful station.)
Mike also built a small freight loop, with a 2-engine, 12-blue
hopper train. He also had a few other engines and a mail car to
put out on static display.
I built a small nested freight loop, with a couple of sidings,
and set out some of the recent freight stations as well. I also
brought the roundhouse, and my train display shelf.
Janet Graff brought lots of town and etc. Erik McCarthy brought
a great 6-story observation center built from paradisa/belville
components, including spiraling staircases, and a fantastic garden
and promenade, and a tall beige spire monument.
We also had a huge box of LEGO to dig through, thanks to Paul
Sinahosen. (Thanks, Paul!)
Our crowd turnout was light, but better than most of us expected.
We got a lot of drop-in public traffic from about 1pm to 4pm. We
actually had a bunch of folks asking how long we'd be there, and
they were disappointed when the answer wasn't measured in days. :-|
We've gotta find a better way to advertise these events.
Don't forget, we'll have another meeting THIS SATURDAY, 12/4, at
the Newark Library. (Members only 10a-12p, public from 12p-4p)
Eric wanted to remind us that we CANNOT have food in the Newark
facility, so please enjoy your meals elsewhere. ;-)
