If you go south on 101, instead of north, you'll get to Gilroy (about 15
miles, the first 5 of which tend to be very slow, even outside rush hour.
There's an alternate route if you're feeling adventurous, though). The outlet
mall is there, with the closest KB outlet store. The Lego situation was
extremely grim when I last went a couple of weeks ago (look for my "scouting
report" postings in this ng), but you never know what will happen from week to
week. Their weekly shipment arrives on Thursday, and is often not completely
unpacked on Friday (but they'll open boxes if you find something you want).
Check their hours before leaving: they usually close at 2000, and may or may
not have extended their hours for Xmas shopping.
If you're interested in other types of shopping, there are various surplus
stores (machinery, electronic, and software) within easy reach of the freeway
on your way to the meeting. Ask, and ye shall receive directions.
