NEW YORK (Snowberg News) Over here in New York City the "War On Snow" is in
full effect.
It's part of the city administration's efforts to help citizens understand
what a real emergency would be like. 24-hour TV coverage. Repeated urgings
to stay indoors.
Repeat: this is only a drill. If this were not a drill, you would all be
snowed in.
Instead, people are pretending to be snowed in, so they can call in sick or
go home from work early, unless they live in New Jersey, where radar detects
there actually is snow.
There's no snow here, after 4 days of endless warnings of doom: "The worst
storm New Yorkers have seen in 30 years!!!" Actually, it was worse in
January, when after 8 inches, New York Mayor Giuliani did declare a state of
emergency and activated the Bunker, built in 1999 to coordinate
counter-terrorist missions and snow removal.
"We're just happy to have made the right call and closed the airport before
too many people were inconvenienced," said a frightened New Jersey state
employee, kowtowing to a vengeful New York state employee who wants any
excuse to cancel their lease and replace them with bureaucrats on a New York
payroll.
Meanwhile, 1,313 snow removal trucks, hastily acquired since the last big
storm, stood guard at the city's borders, watching for a snowflake.
I guess it dumped on other cities.
