I was at the fireworks last Saturday, and they're brilliant. Very well
timed to the music, though a certain tinkly movie theme didn't come out well
on the park's PA system.
After the fireworks, they re-opened some of the rides (Brickadilly
fairground, balloons, The Dragon, Spinning Spider, Hill Train) until the
crowds began to thin. The Big Shop was left open until everyone had gone,
well past 20:30. So, you can leave your pay-and-collect shopping from any
of the shops right up until you walk out the gate.
Just be sure of your way around, because the park isn't designed to be
negotiated in the dark. It's designed to be illuminated so it looks nice
from the hospitality venues, but actually around the park you're constantly
blinded by spotlights - walking back to the hill train from the castle is
one of the worst.
Outside the gates, the sales tent has returned. There were a lot of the
baby weird creature toys at half price. Some stationery, and foam
Adventurer's knives for £2. Of interest might be Duplo MyBots for around
£25 and Life-on-Mars <set:7316> Exploration Searchers for £20. Also
<set:7115> Gungan Patrols at around half price.
In the park, there is a room dedicated to pumpkin building. It's next to
the earthquake and car build-and-test rooms. It's not based on pumpkin
packs - they have their own supply of orange bricks (nearly all 2-wide).
There are pictures of a small pumpkin lying around, but you can build your
own if you want to. As long as it's not (too much) bigger than the one in
the picture, you can pay a pound to take it with you when you leave the
room. Others with more ambitious constructs (Titmarsh, Simpkins) were
charged more. I asked, and was allowed to make a few. Seeing the queues
that formed by the afternoon though, I wouldn't be surprised if they now
limit it to one each.
Apparently, first thing, they had some green bricks to put on the top, but
they soon ran out. When I went in later that morning, they were handing out
a single shrub extender to each paying customer to fit on top of their
pumpkin. By the end of the day, they had resorted to a few black slopes.
And no, I didn't keep going back with false beards - this was from friends
who arrived later.
By the afternoon it was very crowded. The stunt show was on in the harbour.
In the Imagination Theatre, they had dropped the schedule and were just
showing the Racers 4D show continuously to clear the queue.
We had some good weather that day, so did the wet rides first. Note that
some of the rides (adventurer boats, boating school, train) closed at 16:00
(so they actually stopped people joining the queues earlier). They also
closed off the paths around these areas, for setting up the fireworks. All
the rides are closed for the fireworks show.

They certainly are, though it rained pretty well continously while we were there so by the time the fireworks started all our coats had given up any pretence at waterproofness. Luckily the rain slowed to a little drizzle so (...) (22 years ago, 2-Nov-02, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.legoland.windsor)
