However, it is far less ambitious than I first planned.

Though it's footprint is smaller than the 48 stud base plate it sits on, it
still costs £17 a storey in bulk windows alone. With the bulk bricks as
well, its around £22 a story.

Now a 10 storey office block would look nice, but try saying £220 to
yourself for a pile of bricks!
Empire State? £2000+. Forget it!

So I stopped at 6 storey
I could have saved some money (or built it higher for the same cost)  by not
including all the sides, e.g. leave the back off. Might do this, though
would not work if it gets included in a larger town set up with buildings on
all sides.

My design for a tower block is working out a little cheaper, but not much.
Starting from a similar sized base to your tower, I'm using my 3450 Statue
of Liberty as a the source of all building materials, except the windows and
some internal flooring. My current design has all four sides and will cost
me one pack of B001 bulk windows (5 high, black frame, blue glass) at £6.75
per storey.

That would give me a total 10 storey cost of (£134.99 + 10x £6.75) £202.49.
So I could in theory get to 12 storeys for just under your £220.

The advantage I have is that I really love the Statue of Liberty and would
have bought it anyway, plus it gives a greater variety of brick types to
play with. However, my design is far from finalised and I only currently
have two storeys worth of windows!

I'll let you know how I get on.
Paul.
