In lugnet.loc.uk, Peter Simpson writes:
Here we go again, complaining again about "rip off britain". Everyone • knows
that everything  costs far more in Britain because the price reflects the
high wage costs, high fuel transport costs, and the high cost of premises • to
operate a distribution service.

You dont believe this spin put out by those who would rather prices • remained
high do you?

Of cousre not, but that was my "humour", now snipped on the cutting room
floor.

Prices are high in UK simply because we dont complain and accept it. Folks
dont shop around or haggle, whereas our continental cousins are apparently
more price sensitive (or so I read). Look at the fuss in US when they put
petrol up a few pence.

Whats the point of haggling? All businesses are in league with each other,
one big cartel fix!

Because everyone accepts the prices, the shops just keep charging them and
have no incentive to improve efficiency etc to be more competitive.

Roll on Wallmart I say - lets hope we see the sort of lego clearouts I • have
seen in US retailers like Wallmart and Target, and that you read about in
lugnet.marketplace.shopping

Until Wal Mart realise how much dosh they can make out of us soft idiots,
soon will come the same old familiar wail, then they will finance there home
market from huge profits made over here.

>And lets hope we see some real competition in the high street rather than
a
few retailers maintaining a cosy little cartel with no one wanting to rock • the
boat. Try and find much price differential on many products.

Fat chance! The only way for real parity is revolution,  I am already
concerned about a small group of red coated minifigs who keep huddling in
the corner whispering......

regards
lawrence
