I always assumed the same as you... The only one I've seen in recent times
is the one that Michael Edwards brought along to Reddifest. I didn't check
it over in detail, but I believe that it had the red cogs and matching
tyres...
FWIW: there _is_ a variation for the Norton instructions - not the wheels,
just the stand as either a 2x2x.33 tile on edge or as a 1x2 + 1x2x.33...
Sets _were_ subject to modification during their lifespan back then (and
earlier, e.g. grey tyres changed to black on 332 et al), so it's gotta be
possible.
Then again, I've never known a set to come without parts shown in the
instructions, e.g. correct tyres for my 332 etc.
When did the red 2x2 cross-axle wheels come in anyway? Was it 1976 with 107
4.5v motor and 456/661 Spirit of St Louis? S'pose they might have moved to
the cheaper option (less plastic for the wheel / less rubber for the tyre
(1)).
Just [thinkin' out loud] Jono .oO
1. I know - it doesn't add up, but looking at the parts, it seems right.

| Never having had one of these sets originally (in 1975), I always assumed that they came with 10 of the special wheels/tyres that were used in the motorcycle sets 393 and 394 ie the hub is a red cog and the tyre is a special one moulded to fit on (...)
