As Huw says, the black piece of plastic, that prevents the spring from dropping into the clear cylinder, breaks up. This renders the damper completely useless. Hi, Jonathon? Are you saying the "replacment" cylinders also "broke" after use ? Huw? when you say "shattered internally" what are you seeing there? broken seals or fractured ABS parts ? Lego are obviously trying really hard to ensure that they get as few sales as possible this year by having all the adverts on Channel 5. At about 17.45 today I saw an advert for Lego Star Wars sets followed by an advert for Channel 5 (at least (...) (26 years ago, 14-Nov-99, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Back in late August/early September, they did not recognise it as a design flaw, but simply a quality control problem. My replacements were identical in design to those in the original set. I opened the wing doors on my super car today only to find that one air damper had shattered internally and would not operate.
