While this is true, the genious of the 8440 Formula Flash are the rear
mounting arms. While the rear axle on the 8440 is stiff, with no
suspension whatsoever, the arms can still be used to make an independent
front suspension. This means that the parts contained in the 8440 can
be used to make basically the same front suspension as in 8858 Rebel
Wrecker

You'll still need to have the shock absorbers yourself, and you'll have
to use flex cables for the steering rather than the steering links. But
it works quite well. I don't think the parts supplied in 8437 can be
used the same way.
I used the suspension parts from 8440 to make an independent front
suspension for a Fiat X1/9 model:
