I had an e-mail form DYA shopping, about the 8440 Formula Flash. I would like to
get this
set because it looks like it has some good ball joint parts (any comments).
However, I was
wondering if anybody knows where this set might still be for sale in the UK
before I buy
from over-seas and to get a good idea of the price Is should be paying for this
set.

I would also like to know what the best sets are to get ball joint parts. I seem
to have
quite a few actual balls but not much in the way of sockets. I have found that
the very
old Lego men have ball joint hands which are the same as current ball joints,
which could
be quite useful (but they are only in yellow).

The 8437 Future Car, recently (still?) on sale for half price UKP17.49
in a lot of ASDAs, has exactly the same front steering / mounting system
as the Formula Flash (as far as I can tell from the Brickshelf scans of
the 8440). The only apparent difference is that on the 8473 the ball
brackets are yellow and the socket pieces are grey. The Flex steering
pieces still use type II connectors. The rear wheels are mounted
directly onto axles.

I hope this is of use.

(...) Wow, that's cheap! (...) While this is true, the genious of the 8440 Formula Flash are the rear mounting arms. While the rear axle on the 8440 is stiff, with no suspension whatsoever, the arms can still be used to make an independent front (...) (25 years ago, 29-Oct-99, to lugnet.loc.uk)
