Communal Tower Building Project
===========================
Purpose
------
A large tower whereby each person completes a section.
The interface between sections is specified, but everything else is up
to the whims of the individual builder.
Example
------
(Diagram best viewed in monspaced font)
We would end up with something like:
Section n etc... Builder n
|''|
|''|
|''|
' Section 3 |''| Builder d
|oooo|
|oooo|
|oooo|
|oooo|
o Section 2 |oooo| Builder c
|++++|
|++++|
|++++|
+ Section 1 /++++++\ Builder b
|......|
|......|
... Section 0 |......| Builder a
----------
Design
-----
The interface specifications could look like:
(i) Each section has two interfaces:
- Top interface between it and the section above.
- Bottom interface between it and the section below.
(ii) All interfaces are walls forming a square.
(iii) The width of the wall, on each side of the square shall be
greater than or equal to 2 studs.
(iv) The surface of the walls shall be contiguous studs for Top
interface and contiguous 'tubes' for Bottom interface.
Section 0:
Bottom: 48
Top: 48
Section 1:
Bottom: 48
Top 47
Section 2:
Bottom: 47
Top: 47
etc...
Implementation
-----------
- Persons could prefabricate sections before the event, or build them at
the event, or both.
- Persons could build one or more sections of the tower.
- More than one tower can be built if some sections are duplicated.
A City of Towers!!!!
Conclusion
--------
1. This would be a fun way to have a communal building project.
2. A tower would highlight the different building styles and
techniques that people have.
3. There is vast scope for the imagination in how you choose to
implement your section.
4. It is equally accessible to all, sections can be made just as well
with basic bricks.
So, what do people think?
Anyone interested?

| (...) I don't know if I'll be able to make it, but it does sound like a great idea to me! Those with electrical bits and bobs could run a wire through one corner (eg two studs in) to pass signals from one section to another. Probably wouldn't be (...) (25 years ago, 30-Sep-99, to lugnet.loc.uk)
