Utterly impressed (but also discouraged) by the LEGO Mindstorms pinball machine
at
http://www.pinballnews.com/news/lego.html
and my own Lego pin delayed many years by the purchase of a real pinball
machine:
http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=doozie&searchtype=quick#704
finally I have started to build my own Lego Pinball Machine.
I'm aware that I can never compete with the 13 x RCX machine, but I wish to
create a system, maybe reminding of Moonbase or Ball Entrapments or what it was,
where anyone can contribute with smart solutions, regardless of income level.
Anyway, here's my first version of the essential Flippers:

For the moment, the playfield is bare and very limited. I use a Lego Soccer
ball, but might change to a marble or even a small steel ball. The good thing
with the soccer ball is the it will not harm the Lego parts. The bad thing is
that it is very hard to detect a target hit. It also flies around much faster
than a real pinball. As the project moves on, I'll have to decide witch ball to
use.

In my project, the specifications are quite different from many other:
* Use of LEGO is of course encouraged. But LED's, TTL curcuits, Power supply,
and maybe even an old PC with the screen as "backglass" is allowed. I'd prefer
and old 286 from the junkyard instead of 13 RCX units.
* Inexpensive solutions will score extra points.
* Small sized soultions too. I may set a limit to the size of the playfield when
the specs are completed.
* Cool themes. Every pinball machine has it's theme. Innovative themes are
always welcome!
* "Lending" ideas is allowed. They may be copied or improved. For exampel, you
may use my flippers as they are, or improve them. Or, of course, use your own.

So, who'll be the first to come up with a Plunger prototype?
