You need a credit card. For some countries you can link your paypal
account to a bank account, but is currently possible only for the US, UK,
Germany, France and a few more. No Italy :-( Don't know about Portugal.

It is widely used, and works generally well. One of the known issues is
that sometimes, with the excuse of some verification, they "hold" the
money for some days. I mean, the buyer is charged, and the seller not yet
credited. But I guess this is part of their way of getting a business out
of it.

Unfortunately you can receive money ONLY if your paypal account is linked
to a bank account. And, as I said, this is not possible for all the
countries.

This is very simple. Just order a payment to paypal, and they will charge
your credit card/bank account.

I used it for maybe ten transactions, with no problems at all.
