If we change the layout, the bigger cost will be cutting a new set of
baseboards to match the curves of the new layout. Paint costs less per square
metre than Lego baseboards!
Really major layout changes could require replacing the whole tabletop (custom
built with a cut-away lake) or backboard (custom built with cut-away tunnels
and hidden shelving areas).
Our BUGS train show simply would not be happening without Peter Parsons, who
(when he is not busy with his Lego) is also a woodworker with the skills and
equipment needed to do the custom building of the trestle tables, the table
top, the backboard with hidden shelving etc etc (as well as cutting baseboards
into arbitrary curves). The whole thing had to be designed to come apart into
major chunks for transportation and reassembly. This has been as much a
woodworking project as a Lego project! Peter will also be building a perspex
screen for the front of the display to protect it from people leaning over too
close and the inevitable inquisitive little fingers.
