Hi, all

Anyone else seen this at Tricky Dickies? It's a small bag of technic parts,
with an ideas book, most of which can be built without extra bricks. Selling
for $49.?? Looks like pretty good value for kids with a technical bent.

I dont suppose anyone can find out the set # for this? What about details as
to which parts are included?

I don't think it has a set number as it is not a Lego product per se, rather
a licensed deal with a book publisher called Klutz (they are genuine Lego
pieces).  The book is called Lego Crazy Action Contraptions and has about 60
Technic pieces with instructions to build 10 models, 5 with the included
pieces and another 5 with bricks you should already have at home.  It was
published in the US in 1998 and has been available in Aus for over a year, I
looked at it several times in a local discovery knick knack type shop but at
~$42 then I thought it was way overpriced for the contents and left it.
Since then I've only seen it at DSE where I think it is $49.95.
www.dse.com.au has a description.

From what I remember of it the Technic pieces aren't all that exciting,
beams, gears, rubberbands.  A serious Technic collector might like to have
it for completion or novelty value but if it's just parts you're after I
don't think it's worth the price, but YMMV.  But I agree with Ross, it looks
like a good way to get kids creatively started on Technic.

(...) Generic technic pieces like beams and gears happen to be what I need more of, if I wasnt flat broke then I would buy one. Oh well, I do have a birthday comming up in march, mabie I can put it on the list.. (23 years ago, 10-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)
