Birkenhead Point was the place. It was once a tyre factory, set up when the
world was a place where smelly factories sat on riverfront properties.
It was developed into a shopping complex in the late seventies/early eighties.
It has been redesigned four or five times trying to find the right mix of
failing businesses. Recently they threw a giant apartment tower into the mix.
It was always a bit 'Darling Harbour without tourists'.
