Hi All,

I'll add my 2 cents...

where are good places to find lego?

That really depends on what you are after :)

Wonderland of Toys used to be good until they closed down. Toyworld in
Canningvale is ok (he owned a Wonderland so had a "wonderland" philosophy).
Feel free to disagree with me those who are still in Perth - I left in
January so I'm a bit out of touch.

Toyworlds in Subiaco, Claremont and Canningvale are all pretty well stocked
but TRU in Morley and the city are often cheaper.(City store is open Sunday
from noon).  These are the main stores where I shop for LEGO.
I heard World for Kids in Cannington closed down but I haven't been by to
confirm it.
Toyworld in Rockingham has reopened after a fire but they are terribly
understocked with regards to LEGO.
Big W is good, K-mart and Target are OK but wait for the sales.

If you're after second hand stuff then I recommend 6 good places
a) Marc at Kiddiwink Toys in Balcatta - has lots of bits and pieces and
sometimes has sets.

Marc is a great guy with a passion for LEGO, just like me!;)
He often has a selection of sets he has picked up or put together from his own
parts that he sells, but not too many with original instructions- he does
provide photocopies though.
His parts selection is pretty good but don't expect to find too many rare or
newish elements for sale.

b) Murray in Malaga - Can't remember his details but he often advertises
Lego for sale in the newspapers. He has a rather nice collection and sells
bricks by the ice-cream tub and can sometimes be convinced to part with
other bits. He buys collections for personal use and resale and will often
beat you to the best stuff in the paper.

Murray's LEGO room is breathtaking!  Shelves and shelves of sets from way back.
He often advertises in the Sunday Times.

c) Sunday Times readers mart
d) The Quokka

Better than the Sunday Times but have skim through first to check for LEGO ads
before buying one.

e) Swapmeet - but be prepared to walk away and leave it if it is too
expensive and too grotty. Too many people expect you to pay high prices
that's in poor condition. Also get there early - Lego goes quick

and, When I started collecting seriously in 1991 I had some great purchases
from one of the local papers in the Nedlands area. One particular paper
seemed to have a better classifieds section than anywhere else in Perth.
Likewise for garage sales in the same and surrounding area.

I picked up an 8868 form a kid in Nedlands who was selling his LEGO to buy a
stereo.  Nedlands is quite an affluent area, more money, more LEGO.
There is a Sunday swap meet at Broadway Fair in Nedlands each week (I think).
I haven't been to one yet but it may be worth a try.

It's also a good idea to let family and friends know of your interest in LEGO.
They may have or know of someone with an old collection that's gathering dust
somewhere.  I was given some classic space LEGO from a mate who had it sitting
in a shoebox in his garage. He thought it would be better if it was being used
rather than just taking up space.  After a bit of a scrubbing it came up a
treat and is now part of the collective:)

It's been pretty quiet here in the west.  Who's building at the moment?
I bought a UCS X-Wing last week, and a mighty model it is too.  I can see
myself building many new Technic fig scale space vehicles using the new
canopy.
I have also started building a big Prime mover.  Chassis rails are about 60cm
long and I have nutted out the rear suspension and a rough template of the cab.
Wheels are the old large technic wheels from 8860 and the like.
It will eventually tow a trailer with a street machine/drag car on it, which I
finished a while ago.  I have promised pics in the past and you'll see the
beast one day soon, but not having a home PC (I'm at work now) or a digital
camera make things difficult.  I guess I'll have to drag out the SLR and snap
a few pics for scanning.  It'll be worth the wait!
If you're in Perth and are a little curious as to what it looks like, get in
touch via email.

How are they treating you over there Sue Ann? Do you miss the West?
